Welcome to the Subud Chelsea Center

Do you belong to a church looking for a sanctuary in the heart of New York City? Is your nonprofit organization in search of a calm, affordable space in Manhattan where you can worship, meditate, rehearse, perform, hold a recital, graduation ceremony, workshop or other event? Are you scouting around for a tranquil,  accessible meeting venue in the middle of the city? Does your meditation group find peace and quiet hard to come by in the tumult of Manhattan? If you had access to an immaculately maintained gathering place, either every week or every month, or occasionally, do you believe your organization could accomplish extraordinary things?

If you answered yes to any of the above, we'd like to introduce the Subud Chelsea Center. We're conveniently located between Seventh and Eighth Avenue at 230 West 29th Street in Manhattan, just five minutes from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. If your group or community has an out-of-town following, we are just a short bus, train or cab ride from the Port Authority or Grand Central Station.

The Subud Chelsea Center makes its two distinct meeting rooms available to nonprofit organizations on an hourly, per diem, weekly, or monthly basis. Our spaces are uncluttered and neutral. Our very conscious decision to keep the look of our facilities neutral allows you to bring what you need on premises and create a perfectly understated look and feel for your event or program. Your program or event will be designed by you and your volunteers. You can set up our folding chairs and tables and adjust our variable lighting to create your own ambience. Two electric pianos are at your service. Our facilities, your event, your artwork and decor. There will be no costly set up fees because you and your crew will create and dismantle your own event. We are a wireless hotspot, so on breaks your guests can email or surf the net as needed.

Upstairs we have a beautifully understated 3,100 square-foot air-conditioned and carpeted auditorium suitable for as many as 313 people. A smaller 1,600 square-foot air-conditioned hall downstairs features rich red oak flooring and accommodates up to 125. An adjoining cafe, warmup kitchen and serving area make it easy for you to provide your guests with snacks and soft drinks. If you'd like to present your event upstairs and follow it with a banquet or a less formal meal — or tea and refreshments — you can arrange to have your event catered and your guests can enjoy themselves in our downstairs hall and kitchen.

Whatever it is you have in mind, we'd be happy to give you a tour of our premises and help you explore the possible ways you may elect to use the space. You may begin with a virtual tour by clicking on the arrow in the picture to the upper right or you can call Renardo Barden (212) 563-1216 for a tour of the actual spaces. And of course, there's email (subud.chelsea.center@gmail.com).
